The Senior Corporate Accountant assists all corporate financial reporting needs while providing mentoring, training and guidance to the accountants. This role works with the Corporate Controller and the rest of the Rize team to ensure best in class financial controls and accurate reporting and forecasting for the organization.

This is a 12-month fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave.

This role will be responsible for:

  • Corporate Accounting
    • Prepare financial reports and analysis for corporate entities (including monthly and quarterly reporting, year-end working paper files and monthly forecast revisions)
    • Prepare account analysis, journal entries and financial statements
    • Coordinate and prepare monthly management reports and reporting packages
    • Prepare complex accounting reports with Excel and propose changes according to new regulatory guidelines
    • Prepare timely and comprehensive monthly reports for management and ownership
    • Document and update all accounting procedures and internal controls including procedure changes, process improvements and other projects as identified
    • Prepare corporate T2s and ensure the integrity of reporting process for taxation authorities
  • Property Management Accounting
    • Prepare month-end entries for rent roll, expense accrual, and prepaid amortization
    • Prepare monthly trending operating statements. Identify and discuss variances with the Property Manager
    • Work with Property Manager to ensure recurring service invoices are processed in a timely manner, and invoices are properly coded
    • Regular review with Property Manager on A/R balances
    • Work with Property Manager on CAM Reconciliation
    • Work with Accounts Payable in getting cheque payments ready and distributed in a timely manner;
    • Deposit rent cheques and make utility payments at the bank
    • Manage various utility accounts (BC Hydro, FortisBC, Shaw, Telus etc.) with input from the Property Manager
    • Work with Project Accountants on month-end closing entries (Rental Income write off, GST reconciliation etc.) and reporting for pre-development projects
  • Other
    • Process and efficiency improvement
    • Creation and maintenance of org charts.
    • Ad hoc financial planning and reporting as required by individual partners, Corporate Controller, CFO, or Ownership


  • Experience in real estate accounting;
  • Experience with property management accounting preferred;
  • Experience in public accounting preferred;
  • CPA designation is preferred;
  • Adequate experience with Sage 300 Construction is preferred;
  • Post-secondary degree or certificate in accounting is preferred;
  • Strong financial reporting skills;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including writing executive summaries;
  • Proficiency in the use of software applications, databases, spreadsheets, and word processing;
  • Must be driven, self-motivated and highly accountable;
  • Committed to achieving team results;
  • Good knowledge of accounting principles and practices;
  • Good communications skills, both oral and written;
  • Good organizational and time management skills;
  • Ability to work with confidential material and maintain high standards of ethical conduct.
